CanSAGEVideos.com an open-access library of educational videos

The team behind the repository has also launched a YouTube channel

CanSAGEVideos.com is an open-access library of high-quality, Canadian-made videos designed to facilitate education on gynecologic and obstetrical procedures.

Originally co-created by Dr. Ari Sanders and Dr. Ally Murji, the repository is continuously monitored and updated with video resources that are educational, innovative, and free from commercial bias. The team behind CanSAGE Videos has also launched a YouTube channel.

We caught up with Dr. Sanders to learn more about the project.

What inspired you to start putting together this video library?

We create so many great surgical videos across the country (and internationally) that are presented annually at various conferences. However, they were often only viewed once, at the conference, with limited to no ability to go back and watch them again. Dr. Ally Murji and I wanted to create an online video library where these videos could be easily accessed for future reference. A lot of work is put into these videos, and they can serve as incredibly useful teaching tools. It always felt like a shame to see these videos presented, only to never have access to them again. CanSAGE Videos has been the answer to this. I hope it can both continue to highlight the hard work of our community, while providing educational value to obstetrician gynecologists both nationally and internationally.

How can this library help trainees and working ob-gyns?

CanSAGE Videos has an immense library of videos that highlight various surgeries, surgical techniques, and surgical anatomy. The hope is that this will be utilized by both trainees and staff to further their own skills and knowledge. For trainees, there are many cases that they may not see often (eg. unusual ectopic pregnancies, thoracic endometriosis, mullerian anomalies, etc.). This video library allows them to review these cases both before and after actual surgeries to help solidify their knowledge of pertinent anatomy and surgical steps. Further, there are videos on specific surgical techniques (eg. laparoscopic suturing), and trainees and staff can use these videos to help enhance their surgical skills.

Ultimately, whether you are looking to better understand surgical anatomy, better understand surgical skills, or better understand surgical steps to common or uncommon procedures, the large repository of videos on CanSAGE Videos has it all!

What are your goals for the site?

The goals of this site are to both highlight the hard work our trainees and staff put into making surgical videos, while providing an open-access educational tool to obstetrician-gynecologists both nationally and internationally that is easily accessible on their computers and mobile devices. I hope this will help to advance knowledge and skills within the field of gynecology, and also help to solidify CanSAGE as a leader in the advancement of gynecologic excellence.

How can others get involved or contribute to the project?

If you ever have additional videos you would like added to CanSAGE Videos, do not hesitate to reach out to me. I would be happy to facilitate the upload of your videos.

If you have an interest in being involved in helping run the website, I am also happy to hear from
you.
