Just before CanSAGE’s 2024 Conference in Victoria, the EndoSURG Mentorship Program was introduced as a new educational and surgical support activity targeted at motivated general gynecologists to improve their competencies in surgical and medical endometriosis care.
“The idea for EndoSURG stemmed from the desire at CanSAGE to provide ongoing support and a framework for those surgeons wanting to continue to push their surgical boundaries in endometriosis care,” said Dr. Liane Belland, a co-chair of the event.
“The setting for the inaugural event in Victoria was perfect: national experts with loads of experience and opinions, eager surgeons with skills at the ready and a mix of classroom time and hands-on lab exposure on life-like models made for a tremendous experience.”
“The cherry on top was the big reveal of introducing attendees to their surgical coach and watching what transpired from that over the next few months – that is the most satisfying of all.”
Looking back, mentees who participated in the EndoSURG program said it was a rewarding experience.
“I think this surgical coaching option has been my favourite educational experience since being out in practice,” said Dr. Jacqueline Wood, who was coached by Dr. Lauren Andrew. “I truly think this is the best way to enhance surgical skills and is a fantastic idea. “I cannot thank the CanSAGE group enough for making this happen.”
“I really enjoyed the program,” added Dr. Andrea Mosher, a mentee who was coached by Dr, Yale Tang. “I found it helpful and motivating. I had never recorded my surgeries before so that was a cool new experience. I received thoughtful and constructive feedback from my mentor, as well as suggestions on new approaches for things like ureterolysis.”
“I have highly recommended this course to colleagues.”
Stay tuned for an announcement of the return of EndoSURG Mentorship in 2026.
