Dr. Aziz Slaoui
Dr. Aziz Slaoui

MIGS Fellow: McGill University

I am an Assistant Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mohammed V University in Rabat, the oldest and most prestigious university in Morocco. Ranked top of my class at every stage of my journey (medical school, internship, residency, and professorship), I have always aimed for excellence. Becoming a CANSAGE MIGS fellow is the fulfillment of a dream I have pursued since the beginning of my specialization. As the first Moroccan to join this program, I am determined to become a pioneer in gynecologic endoscopic surgery in Morocco, in Africa, and globally, with the goal of improving access to innovative, women-centered care.

I’d like to serve as Fellows’ Representative because I deeply believe in the power of our community and the importance of making every voice heard. From the very start of my career, I’ve always stepped up to represent others: first as student representative in the Faculty of Medicine, then as residents’ delegate in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the hospital, and today as spokesperson for Assistant Professors and physicians at the Rabat University Hospital. These experiences have taught me to listen carefully, to bridge the gap between frontline needs and decision-makers, and to advocate passionately for the collective good. As a MIGS fellow, I understand the challenges we face every day, and I’m committed to being an engaged, accessible link between the CanSAGE Board and our group. I’m proud to bring my fluency in both French and English to the table—so that every fellow, wherever they come from, feels fully included. More than just a language skill, I see it as a promise: to listen deeply to your experiences, celebrate our diverse perspectives, and build genuine connections across our community. Together, we’ll foster open dialogue, spark new ideas, and champion minimally invasive surgery innovations that truly improve patients’ lives.

MIGS Fellow: Mount Sinai, Women’s College and Trillium Health Partners

I grew up in Ottawa and obtained a Global Health degree from Mount Allison and a Master’s in Global Health from McMaster. I spent several years travelling, working intermittently to fund my next adventure, before hunkering down to pursue medicine. I completed med school in Newfoundland and residency at Queen’s. My next stop is Mount Sinai/THP for fellowship. Throughout residency, I’ve been recognized at the program and university level for my dedication to teaching and medical education. I have worked internationally in multiple low-income countries, and I hope to introduce MIGS to new corners of the world throughout my career.

I am running to be the Fellow Rep on the CanSAGE board because I am passionate about advancing the field of gynecologic care in Canada and abroad. So many exciting advances in obstetrics and gynecology are happening in the space of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and I am eager to be a part of the forefront of surgical innovation and education. I have a deep respect for CanSAGE as an institution. As a junior resident, I attended a CanSAGE Conference and was so inspired by the cutting-edge work being done by its members from coast to coast. This organization is responsible for piquing my interest in the field of MIGS and has helped to shape my career. If elected, I would solicit feedback from second year fellows across the country about the challenges they have faced thus far, bring these forward, and work with the Board to overcome these obstacles and improve the overall educational experience. I am excited by the opportunity to push the organization further – building on what it does well and working to improve areas that need it. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

MIGS Fellow: McMaster University – St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton

I was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario. My BSc (Hons) undergraduate degree was completed at the University of Toronto after which I went on to complete my Master of Public Administration degree at Queen’s University and worked a brief stint in the Ontario Public Service. After completing medical school at McMaster, I have remained in Hamilton to complete residency and now my fellowship in Advanced Gynecologic Surgery at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. Research interests include surgical outcomes and endometriosis. I love to travel, cook, and be out in nature!

Participating in the CanSAGE Board as a Fellow Representative will allow me to foster a career network within the MIGS community at large. I have a vested interest in improving surgical education and hope that involvement on the board will further contributions in this capacity. A similar role I have maintained in the past is being a member of the Resident Progress Committee for 5 years in my residency program during which we have been able to make changes to the curriculum increasing gyne ambulatory exposure in junior years and have been advocating for earlier gyne OR exposure throughout my time. From the perspective of professional development, meeting these experts at a national level will encourage sharing of region-specific resources, techniques, and practices. I will have exposure to the logistics of policymaking and initiatives designed to promote surgical excellence in our field. Observing these processes will increase my experience and hone skills that can be transferrable to any similar leadership positions pursued in the future.
